I am Convinced About a Spiritual-Social Model

In my last post I was explaining how we can reduce stress. I am convinced that we need to
create or recreate a spiritual-social model to address this emotional baggage that weighs us down.
It can only be implemented from an African perspective because Africa is the oldest and most relevant source of spiritual science. This science is not religion, it is not watered down.

This will allow us to understand our world with a connectivity that underscores all the sensibilities
of human nature and the physical world. Other systems have replaced the original indigenous sciences and systems. This systems are inferior! As we embrace this truth, it opens the door to
measure a psycho-social model  and ask some questions about it's effectiveness.

Next post: Let's explore, what a spiritual-social model looks like....

The Spiritual-Social Model

Continuing from my last post on How do People of Color Handle Stress, I wanted to
discuss the spiritual-social model. Why this model? I never have seen it named it before.
Based on my experiences and and knowledge of religion and spirituality this is a superior
model. Why?

The psycho-social model comes out of Freudian theories. We need a model that addresses
our reality. Spirituality that I speak of relates to indigenous systems. Systems that include
nature, support systems and science that maintains a balance in life. The social component
is one that includes inequality and injustices, else we are just lying to ourselves.

In our process to handle stress, what meta-physical sciences do we apply daily. Let me
simplify. The things that are abstract, these things we don't understand,  God, breath, love, etc...
Almost all cultures have indigenous sciences that have principles that help us live in the physical
world with all it's complications.

How do People of Color Handle Stress

How do people of Color Handle Stress? There are an entire set of stresses that don’t
apply to other ethnic groups. Yet, after we deal with the biological and physical
understanding of how stress affects the body, we can then began with the reality of
people of color, here in the Americas.

In fairness, I must state that the system that people of color are in, has systematically failed us,
and is set up to limit the very nature of our existence. If I am to teach people of color this is the
first thing I must say. Now we can begin.

First, introspection is a key element at this point. Specifically, the examination or observation of one's
own mental and emotional processes; I also suggest we use a spiritual-social model, verses a psycho-social
model. My reasoning is it is the spiritual teaching coupled with our reality that can provide us with tools to grow.
Spirituality is different from religion but it should be addressed to gather a proper assessment.

Those of us Who are Artists-There is a Reason

I still remain a sophisticated slave with  only a slither of freedom. My freedom
lies in the fact that I have not worked under someone for 18 months. Would you agree that is freedom? I would, but there are dire costs associated with such actions.

The lifestyle I once lived, I can no longer live. I sold my car last May, I rarely buy any
new clothes. Entertainment consist of free events that I have enjoyed throughout the summer
in Newark (This is actually a really good thing). I don't have a girlfriend. And on and on.

Yet this journey has helped me define who I really am, an artist. An artist that wears different
hats and has loads of innate skills to be developed. But yet many remain sophisticated slaves because
mass culture shackles us to a paradigm that does not fit our innate make-up. And we feel it
and some of us know it and ignore it, as it seems to overwhelming to face. It can be.

We have jobs and kids and ego and society looking at us and daring us to break the norm.
Understand freedom is a journey, like so many other journeys in our life.  Anything can happen!
We cannot be afraid of our heart  or of the powerful intuition that lies within us. It is given to us for a reason. Those of us who are artists--there is a reason.

Seems Like Fun

Recently I was talking with Dr. Kevin Bond a minister from Brooklyn. He was sharing with me that the brothers in his church have a difficult time finding jobs.
He encourages them to return to school because there is funding available.

He added that some of the men want to be entrepreneurs. Without a breath he continued to say-- that they don't know what entrepreneurship is really all about! This is not any reflection on these men or others in this country who are told about entrepreneurship as it is like playing a pick-up game of basketball.

This is reason I included this picture with this post, it seems like fun, it looks
very promising, but there are so many pitfalls. Number one there is no formal
education, no mentorship that prepares us for entrepreneurship. We all are left to connect the dots if we have any hope of being successful.

It seems like fun, I want to be an entrepreneur! I want to have my own hours
and be my own boss! Do you know this entails working 12-14 hour work days,
maybe without pay. It can also take 2-5 years before you can even begin to make money.

So it seems like fun, do you have savings, a good credit rating, a business that
already has a tribe (Seth Godin) or audience that uses your product and service?

Does it still seem like fun? At the beginning you will also need to wear several hats. This will reflect your skill sets and personality. Are you a self-starter? Are you good with social media and a computer? Do you have a computer? How good are your writing skills. Whatever you can't do, you will need to hire someone. So does it still seem like fun.

Guidance From The Planets and Stars

My astrologer e-mailed me recently to see how I was doing. Samuel Reynolds has been providing me some great readings since October 2013. Here is my response about insights on this entrepreneur journey

The journey is tricky, but everything happens in small increments. Your readings were correct, sometimes the timing would be a few days later or a few days before. However, I could not have gotten this far without your help. Last week I joined with Felipe Luciano on Newark TV. I will be writing for his morning show, I have also suggested a show he is interested in. It deals with questioning the level of involvement of our churches.

Otherwise I am ghostwriting a few books, my second book is complete, 'Quality of Heart' and I have twelve songs ready to go for my first album. What else? I have one digital paper out, 'The Artist Recreates the World' and a second coming out soon named Internalize Something New. And I have about 6-8 blogs running and a YouTube Channel.

What I failed to convey is that my income is not close to what it once was and my lifestyle has changed drastically because of my focus on business. And I don't have a girlfriend. It takes money to date these days. My point here is that the goal and dream is possible, but there are many ways to travel that road. Others may have saved and waited until retirement, some people may try to work full time and start the business.

The other point is that I followed my intuition and looked for the planets and stars to confirm by feelings. As I heard my readings back in 2013, I knew I had to launch out with or without money.
